I don't do grammar.

I have never liked the subject English. Math was always my jam. I have always been bad at spelling, writing and grammar. I learned in school that I would have to write my paper way before it was due so I could have it proof read multiple times.

Well I am not going to have everything I write on here proof read. So there will be spelling and grammar mistakes. Just roll with it. I am going to write how I speak and that's not perfect. One time I wrote a whole paper about time trials and used the word trail instead. I also use the word productful when I am being extra productive.

I have never kept a journal or even attempt to keep a journal because I am self conscious about using words I don't know how to spell. I would start writing and then come to a word that I couldn't spell, get frustrated and then give up on journaling. Many times I change the wording of what I want to say because I can't spell the word I want to use. So writing for me is outside my comfort zone. There will be run on sentence, grammatical mistakes and at time misspellings.

This would be my reaction if I was told to write a paper without using spell check.

I also will use the phrases "you guys" and "y'all." "You guys" is very Midwestern of me but I also like to use "y'all." I am not from the South, nor did I live in the South for very long, but for some reason I like using the phrase. I especially like using "all y'all" when I am talking about a large group of people.

Spelling has greatly impacted my professional career as well. As a dietetic intern at Louisiana Tech, I expressed my concern about charting to my internship director. She stated that most hospitals used EMR (electronic medical records) and they have spell check built into the system. This eased my fear for a bit. The first rotation I had did in fact use EMR but it was an older system so it did not have spell check. I would have a list of words that I commonly used that I couldn't spell of the top of my head. Medical terms are hard and are harder yet to spell.

Now I have a different issue. In my current job, I write on a white board a lot. That means having to spell words without a cheat sheet around. Most of the time the patients don't notice or at least don't saying anything when I misspell a word. Often times my handwriting will get sloppier when I don't know how to spell a word. And then if I am comfortable with the patients, I will even ask them how to spell a word or to spell check me. Oh the adventures of a girl who cannot spell.

I hope you find my writing quirks endearing and it does not detour you from reading and enjoying the content.

PS. Many of the words in this post had to be carefully conceived because of spelling and grammar. I also use my iPhone speech to text function to correctly spell words. It is a lifesaver.
